What kind of music makes you come alive?

That is what I want to help you learn. No matter what your personal goals are, I believe that learning to express yourself through music will profoundly affect your life in more ways than just having accomplished a highly technical learned skill and reading a new language.

“You are the music while the music lasts.” – T. S. Eliot

Music is healing. And when you are the one making the music, it can be deeply emotional. So many times my students and I have realizations during lessons about ourselves and life, far beyond the music itself. I know I have had to face my deepest, darkest fears while, at times, struggling through a piece of music or a performance. I also have come to see how training your voice is foundational in helping you to find your ‘true voice’ in the world. Beyond just loving the whole art and science of music itself, this is why I have chosen to teach and share music.

I focus on fundamental concepts with a strong emphasis on theory, so you can play and sightread the classics AND learn to put the music away and rock out with a band in the genre of your choice, or maybe even start composing your own music!

  • Private Piano Lessons (beginner through advanced intermediate)
    • Staff Reading, Chords, Technique/Scales, Theory and Songwriting Fundamentals
  • Private Guitar Lessons (beginner to intermediate)
    • Staff Reading, Beginning Tab, Open Chords, Barre Chords, Scales, Music Theory
  • Vocal Lessons

I will be the first to tell you I am not a “voice teacher”. I am still working on my voice with the Speech Level Singing technique, which allows me to sing the modern pop/rock vocals I love. But I can share my technique, warm you up for performance, help you prepare for an audition or help you get comfortable learning to play and sing at the same time.

(If you are seeking classical voice training or more advanced technique, I can offer recommendations).

All lessons are 30 minutes. You may take piano and guitar, but I recommend either a double lesson (for adults) or 2 lessons a week (for kids). If only one instrument at a time, I recommend a 6-month minimum focus on each instrument.
